In his work with his clients, Dr. Hunziker looks at each person as a unique individual, not just someone with a diagnosis. This means that he addresses the problems of the whole person, not just the alleviation of symptoms. He makes every effort to assist the person in the fuller understanding of who they are and what assets they have to bring to solution of their problems.
He can perform psychological testing of emotional and cognitive functioning which can be of considerable help in moving treatment along. When medication may be helpful, he has psychiatrists with whom he works on a regular basis. He also tries to communicate with the person's primary care provider when that seems appropriate. He may include family members when their input could be helpful.
Consistent with his treatment philosophy, he does not hold to the position that all emotional illnesses are simply biological in origin. This is not, in his view, supported by research or clinical experience. He does have a professional commitment to make services "evidenced based" which means he makes every effort to keep abreast of the research literature in mental health.
